Giftcards.com is running a Veterans Day sale of 5% off Mastercard gift cards.

Promo Code

The email mentioned 'VETERANSDAY' as the promo code, but the website also mentions 'MASTERSALE' as another code. You can try both if you exhaust one.

The sale is for Veterans Day but the terms of the sale state that it runs until 11/17. The maximum discount is $75 according to the terms. You should be able to maximize it by purchasing 10 $250 gift cards.

Gift card options

If you buy the Virtual Gift cards you avoid the shipping fee and pay $5.95 fee for a $250 gift card. With the 5% discount you pay net $243.45 per $250 virtual gift card. Any credit card and portal rewards are extra.

Shopping Portal

Always make sure to click through a rewards portal before making a purchase on giftcards.com. My favorite is AAdvantage eshopping portal which is currently rewarding 3x American miles + loyalty points on gift cards purchases up to a maximum of $2000 purchases per month. You can stay within that limit with 7 $250 gift cards and 1 $202.40 gift card purchase in your first order. That should net you a cool 6000 miles and loyalty points, keeping you strong on your AA elite journey.

If you purchase it before 11/14 you will also qualify for AAdvantage holiday bonus of up to 4000 AA miles.



One caveat is that the Veterans Day promo code is currently not listed on the portal. You can either wait for the promo to show on the portal or try your luck early.

Credit card to use
giftcards.com does not qualify for any of the usual credit card bonus categories so you should either use a credit card on which you will earn a sign up bonus or your best non-bonused spend credit card - usually a 2% or 2x credit card like Citi Double Cash, Capital One Venture and Venture X cards, Amex Blue Business Plus or Cash card, or if you are Platinum or Platinum Honors with Bank of America then 2.25% or 2.625% with your Premier Rewards, Travel Rewards or Unlimited Cash Rewards card (or 4.625% for some chosen ones until 12/31).

Unfortunately, the Bank of America Custom Cash Online category bonus stopped applying to giftcards.com some time in 2021. This was likely a transaction category change on giftcards.com side. Also unfortunately, paypal is not an option which would have allowed to use to max out your Chase Freedom 5x category bonus.

IHG Ambassador Renewal Offer extension

As discussed before on this blog,  IHG Ambassador is one of the few reward status that can be outright purchased for a fixed amount every year. The usual rate is $200 or 40,000 IHG points. This can be very useful if you are going to stay at Six Senses for example.
