Lifemiles has had a sale with a bonus of up to 165% bringing the cost of the points down to 1.25 cent per mile. To get the best rate you need to register through a OneMileAtaTime link otherwise you will get up to a 160% bonus which is 1.32 cent per mile.

You will get the best rate when buying 51,000 points or more.

Lifemiles recently devalued their points for North America to Asia routes. They used to cost 42.5K and 78K + around $100 in fees oneway, whereas now they cost 47K and 90K + around $100 in fees. Keep that in mind if you plan to sit on the miles for a while as airlines devalue them without notice all the time.

If you buy miles in this sale, with the new rates you will end up paying around $650 for oneway economy and around $1200 for oneway business to Asia, and around $500 for oneway economy and around $900 for oneway business to Europe.

One of the unique features of Lifemiles is the ability to book only certain legs in business class and saving on the business class rate for the entire booking. For example, if you are traveling from Seattle to Brussels, and you are looking to book United from Seattle to Chicago in economy and Chicago to Brussels in business, you only get charged 53,360 miles + $52 and not $63,000 for business for the entire route.

The sale ends today so if see a good use for them in the future, now is a good time to buy them. Also, remember miles purchases on lifemiles.com tag as airfare with credit cards so you can use a card which gives higher cashback in the airfare category to earn some cashback or points as well. For e.g. the Platinum Card will give you 5x points on airfare, and both Amex Gold and Green cards will give you 3x points on airfare which could be a good use of those cards.
